Design By Sequence

Title: Relationships...twisted, random, forever changing
Medium: glitter and white painted wood, metal twisted licorice ropes, handprinted on colored paper, inkjet print on paper, hot glue.
Dimensions: 7.5" x 11" x 23"

Legend: Adenine(A)=boy, Guanine(G)=girl, Thymine(T)=loves, Cytosine(C)=hates. Boy binds with loves. Girl binds with hates.

Summary:
I chose four words boy, girl, loves, hates to represent the DNA bases. The interactions between the base pairs represent human relationships. The strand on the left is the original DNA sequence. Various mutations are added to the original sequence to form the right strand. The complexity and diversity of the mutated strand resembles the effects due to problems that occur in relationships. Relationships and DNA are often twisted, random, and forever changing.
Special thanks to my Dad.

Genetic Art Proposal

Title: Cell Culturing "Chia" Face

Summary:Tissue engineering has generally been used as a medium for scientific advances; however, a new gateway of tissue engineering use for artistic expression has been introduced. Its breakthrough with science and art has influenced my genetic artwork idea of culturing skin cells to develop an at-home-grown face. The presentation of this project will be marketed as the Cell Culturing "Chia" Face. The concept of the face is to grow a layer of "perfect" skin in the form of a complete face in which an individual can apply to her natural face. Its main purpose of use is for facial enhancement to an individual's beauty preference. Flawless complexion can be achieved by simply using the facial creation to cover scars, burns, acne, wrinkles, or unevenness in color due to sun exposure. In addition, the individual can culture her "face" to include various changes to her original facial characteristics such as adding dimples or changing the nose or overall face structure. The Chia Face is a convenient alternative to ease the everyday worries that people encounter in a society that places great importance on physical appearances.
